Charity

Here at Sports Massage Bedford we pride ourselves on our charity work. To date, we have raised over £6000 in the last 3 years. But we don`t just hold our hand out for money, we try to give something back to people who donate. We do this via our annual quiz night and informal sportive amongst other things.

Our first challenge was cycling the Coast to Coast from Whitehaven to Sunderland across some of the steepest hills in the country. In doing so we raised £2000 split between the Meningitis Trust and The Stroke Association. Having not been on a bike for 15 years before the challenge, I was a little naïve taking on a 138 miles in one day.

My youngest daughter pointed out to me at the time that I had chosen the narrow part of the country to cycle across. So the seed was sewn, one day I would cycle across the widest part of Great Britain.

So last year, we set out of our biggest challenge to date, cycling from St David`s in Wales to Lowestoft in Suffolk, 474 miles over 4 days. With the 26 miles of the London Marathon, that made up our 500 mile Proclaimers Challenge. I was accompanied by Phil Croney and Brian Carlin on this challenge and needed all their encouragement to get me through day 1 of 4 having `bonked out` ( a cycling term for hitting the wall)6 miles before the end of day 1. We even peddled back to Bedford the day after arriving in Lowestoft!

We raised and amazing £4000 for Macmillan Cancer Support last year.

This year we donated all our money from the quiz night to Colin White McArthy and Jade Parsons London Marathon fund, raising for Aspire the spinal injury charity, over £1000.

2016 was and amazing year for SMB charity activities. Over £5000 raised towards 2 very deserving charities. Pictures and write up to follow.
